LASSie on the French “30 Millions d’Amis” TV show

LASSie was just featured in the most popular animal programme on French TV, called 30 Millions d’Amis (“30 Million Friends”). It gives a great exposure to LASSie and we hope it was watched by many across France and othe French-speaking countries. Help us spread the word and the link to the video!
Here is a quick introduction to 30 Millions d’Amis foundation :
Founded in 1976 by the late Jean-Pierre Hutin and his wife Reha, 30 Millions d’Amis leads the way in France in terms of raising awareness about animal protection, fighting against human irresponsiblity and advocating the rights of our furry friends. More than 30 years later, the foundation still enjoys a huge popularity with the French-speaking public, especially through their widely-circulated magazine and their record-lasting TV show, both simply known as 30 Millions d’Amis.

Rafiee Ghani's 'Perfumed Gardens' at ChinaHouse

'Perfumed Gardens' features Rafiee Ghani's four months' journey in India. He is not a stranger there, having travelled to different parts of this land of varied cultures and traditions.
This time, he brings home a piece of India to share his journey with art lovers. This intimist artist portrays his trademark colours, which are brilliantly blended with the essence of India. These works are inspired by the ever vibrant, energetic but yet romantic land.

Penang Asia's best place for street food ?

To answer that question, follow in the footsteps of food writer Pat Nourse and photographer Christopher Wise and meet some of the movers and shakers on today's Penang tourism scene. Both Straits Collection and ChinaHouse have been featured in their article, which came out in the latest edition of the Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine. To read Pat's piece, you can either visit Australian Gourmet Traveller's website, or download the following files to view Christopher's amazingly vivid pictures. Only then will you be able to make up your mind about their question... Penangites sure know the answer already ;-)

A word from Narelle...

NarelleWell, we tried, but no way could we beat a competitor that put on 3,500 votes in three days… We voted in what we believe was the good old fashioned way and in the spirit of  the competition. The team around LASSie were superb. Jerome our volunteer worked tirelessly updating constantly Facebook, Twitter and blogs and even got us on YouTube! Alison and all Bon Ton and LASSie staff worked hard at it daily. Robert even took the computer round to each table to gather votes in ChinaHouse, Penang. Outside shelters came to our support – AnimalCare, SPCA Selangor and Penang and many others we didn’t know about, including one in the US. Devi in Penang who we never met, but who has always been a great supporter worked the whole month to find voters for us. Dr Geetha who is our co-founder in Singapore worked the Singaporean animal lovers for votes.

Thanks to all these people, and also to friends (including all our fans & followers!), family and guests who voted for us. Sorry for so many follow-up emails! A big thank you to Mark Batros who nominated us and Megaa who was his main support for his dream. The only regret is we can’t have the list of the people who did vote for LASSie. We can never thank them individually and might never know who they are. But please accept this as a big thank you.

A little note… The cute puppy on our first flier… His name is Chubby Chups, and he and his sister Storm were found in Beach St Penang, in a burnt building just down from our ChinaHouse food & arts centre. We had a few people that wanted to adopt Chubby as he was cute. But no one wanted Storm as she was not pretty. But the rule was they went together as they were so happy together. In the end we had no choice but to bring them to Langkawi… courtesy of Malaysia Airlines!! They are now 6 months old, inseparable and enjoy LASSie's seabreezes, lawn and space to play. Thanks Chubby for being our pin up boy!!

LASSie on SunSuper Dreams

LASSie, the Langkawi Animal Shelter & Sanctuary foundation, has just been nominated on the SunSuper Dreams website, which gives us a chance to win a much-needed AUS$5,000 grant for the shelter. Here’s a message by Narelle McMurtrie, owner of Brand Bon Ton and founder of LASSie:

“To all our friends, we have been nominated by one of our guests for his wish/dream to help the stray animals of Langkawi. Bon Ton Resort, Temple Tree Resort, Straits Collection and ChinaHouse Penang, all under the Bon Ton group, operate LASSie, the Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary. Not only do we provide shelter for the strays on the island but we also operate our own charity animal clinic to sterilize all the strays. In this way we hope to control the stray population. It is a huge job. Please record your vote for us, as we may be lucky enough to win AUS$ 5,000. And we need all the help we can get. Many thanks for your support, Narelle”.

If you wish to support LASSie's cause and cast your vote for our furry friends, go to the SunSuper Dreams website. Just click “Vote”, fill in your first name, email address and captcha verification code, and click on the confirmation link sent to your inbox. All in all, it’s free and takes less than one minute to complete. There are only worthy causes on SunSuper Dreams and you may cast your vote for three of them in total. We do hope that you will consider registering one of these three votes for LASSie before the deadline on February 29, 2012.

Thanks everyone for your support. And thank you to all the people and organizations that will be sharing our voting link with their friends and followers. And most of all, thank you to our guest who registered on SunSuper Dreams in the first place. Do check our LASSie website to learn more about the foundation, the island animal clinic and how to donate to the foundation.
